PALMISTRY
can you believe
i only slept from 5am to 6am last night
PIANGX.
one pathetic hour
my skin on my upper arm is peelin' like nobody's business
from the sunburn last week
gross.

re-newed my lost + expired world of sports membership card

I'M GOIN' NUTS.
slept at 5am last night
was doin' my tutorial
sighx.
another full day of work at spageddies @ paragon
the first hour was a nightmare - our system was DOWN!
we couldn't time-in, couldn't key-in the orders, the kitchen couldn't get the order chits, couldn't print the captain's order, couldn't do the billin'!
we had to do everythin' manually - writin' down the orders neatly for the kitchen
then the cashier had to write the bill out, calculatin' the total bill usin' a calculator
there was no receipt for the customers too of cos
now then i realise how dependent we are, on computer systems
without them, we could hardly function
luckily there weren't many tables yet
we could still stall for some time before the system recovered
compared to snoopy place (here i go again..)
spageddies seems to be less prepared for a system failure
haha
i remember we used to be instructed rather frequently on what to do when the POS system hangs
there were even three-ply papers at the kitchen printer
ready for use when the system failed
& what were the things to do when the system recovered
(to prevent double orders bein' done)
oh well, it could be that the system hung more often at snoopy place
(the system was really ancient)
that's why we were more prepared
both lunch & dinner were quite slow today
was the cashier (AGAIN) for the dinner shift
(luckily there was Lena who saved me from bein' the cashier durin' the lunch shift too, haha)
washed the spageddies' shirt
really wonder how am i goin' to survive with juz ONE shirt
when i work almost everyday
couldn't take it anymore
(i've been wearin' it since last thursday)
I HAVE TO WASH IT!
problem is, it has to be ready by tomorrow mornin' - dry & clean
i soaked it in detergent & water while i was bathin'
then washed it & wrung it dry
(but of cos it's still damn wet)
so i hung it up, & directed my fan at it at the highest speed for hours
& ta-dah!

at least some of them will be havin' holidays when NUS students are havin' exams, etc.
AT LEAST there is some kind of co-ordination
& it'll be a "more fun" mix of people
HELL.

back to school, yucks.
luckily the multivariate statistical analysis lecture was cancelled
so school ended at 12pm! hoho
there was a mid-term test
for the new media module
all MCQs, so it was quite ok
completed it in 20mins
so could leave early
(actually school ended much earlier!)
then met Sharon for lunch
& left for town to catch a movie!
watched brokeback mountain
(my first R21 movie in my life! hoho)
it won so many oscar awards
but sometimes i wonder what are the judgin' criteria
anyway, it was ok except that it was way too SLOW

been quite a long day
first, was an interview at the prudential @ fuji xerox towers, tanjong pagar
was contemplatin' whether to go for it
cos i've more or less expected what would the job be about

besides fillin'-up my details
i also did a profilin' questionnaire, to find out what kind of person am i
it turned out that i am a PERFECTIONIST
people look at me as a perfectionist, i look upon myself as a perfectionist too
so a 100%-perfectionist then

I AM NOW A ONE-STAR PADDLER!
day two of the canoein' one-star course!
most of us were already sunburnt, from yesterday
haha
no more double-kayaks today!
all of us had to use single kayaks
it was more unstable!
i thought i could capsize anytime
the first thing we learnt in the mornin'
was rafted-T 'X' rescue
we went out into the river in groups of 3
each of us took turns to play the role of the main rescuer, assistant rescuer & the victim
this rescue is designed to save someone whose kayak is capsized
& help the victim get back into the kayak
the victim had to do the capsize drill
(pretendin' to have capsized)
& the main job of the rescuers is to empty the water out of the capsized kayak
after this, it was lunch at the same place as yesterday - golden mile food centre
we then went on to learn to move sideways
by usin' the 'J'-draw & the classical draw
the drifts were gettin' really strong
& we kept bobbin' around on the water & driftin' away from shore
i almost capsized for quite a few times too
then we had a short introduction to stern rudder
which was juz to adjust the direction of the kayak slightly
i'm now a one-star paddler!!!

if i have the time + money, i'll go on to the two-star course next time!

CANOEIN' ONE-STAR COURSE - DAY ONE! BURNT!
wasn't informed of the meetin' place for the canoein' one-star course!
sent a sms last night & received a reply this mornin'
luckily i was still in time to rush down to kallang, whew.
there were 11 people who signed up for this course
out of which, 9 of them were guys & only 2 girls!

i went alone (so lonely!) but made friends with the other girl - Nurul
& we paired-up to take a double-kayak
=)
kallang river!
we walked to the kallang river from the mrt station
then met our coach - B.Y.
brought out the kayaks, paddles & PFDs (personal floatation devices)
then had a brief theory lesson
on the parts of a kayak & a paddle
we were then taught the forward & reverse strokes
& tried them out on land
then finally, it's into-the-WATER time!
we launched our kayaks into the river
& canoed to the opposite shore
i took the front seat, while Nurul took the back
after goin' up to the shore
it was the test for water confidence - to swim about 50m (i think it was more than that) out into the sea, tap the bow of the coach's kayak, then swim back
with the help of the PFDs of cos (somethin' like a life-vest)
it started rainin' quite heavily while we were swimmin'

after the swimmin' test
we then did the capsize drill::
1) check for dangers
2) check the depth of the water (makin' sure it's deep enough)
3) put the paddle on the side
4) set-up position - hands grabbin' the hull of the kayak, forehead facin' downwards
5) rock the kayak till it capsizes
6) tap the hull of the kayak 3 times with both hands
7) disembark the kayak then raise the paddle & call for help
8) swim to the bow/stern of the kayak & hold on to it
9) swim to the shore, pullin' the kayak with you
so much water got into my nose
*ah choo*
we then tried the forward & reverse strokes
before goin' to golden mile food centre for LUNCH!
imagine eatin' outside in totally wet clothes?

the lessons after lunch were mostly kayakin' out in the sea
more forward & reverse strokes
the proper ways of embarkin' & disembarkin' the kayak
also emptyin' a kayak of water,
learnin' the meanin' of the signals of the coach's whistle
& also raftin' (to form-up together)
the last few skills learnt for today were forward & reverse halt
& forward & reverse sweep strokes
my arms were so BURNT.
although it rained for a short while
it was rather sunny at all other times
ah, lobster!
bathed & walked down to bugis junction with Nurul & her friend
had the new media project meetin' there today

had dinner with Yongmin, Gerald, Kenneth first at the foodcourt
before goin' to the national library to discuss
i was practically dozin' off durin' the meetin'
very tired!!!
 Gerald brought this to share, how interestin' - for men only?
after the meetin'
Yongmin accompanied me to watson's to get some moisturiser (cos my skin is badly burnt!) + sun-tannin' lotion
but can you believe it - i spent $34+ on such stuff
x_X!!
Yongmin, who was juz supposed to accompany me, ended up buyin' $20+ worth of stuff too
gosh.

KTV OUTIN'!
munchie monkey yet another ktv outin'!

i actually had to work split-shifts today at spageddies
but asked Zoey to take over my lunch shift
so that i could join in the ktv, heex
those who came:: Remy, Alexis, Jiayu, Amanda, Huiying, Samuel, Katherine, Sandy, Wei Liang, Gregory, Huiying (another one!) & myself!
we went for lunch at food loft @ marina square first
before goin' to sing
also dropped by spageddies @ marina square
it's indeed much smaller
but basically everythin' is the same
went kbox @ marina square
it was a really short ktv session for me
cos i gotta leave for work
the room given to us was FREAKIN' big!
o.O!!
it's the type that has a pool table & a projection screen!
FWAH.
we couldn't play pool though
cos we paid for a smaller room
they gave us this room cos they had no smaller rooms
cool!

was right on time for work, whew

NUS CENTENNIAL CHARITY CAR RALLY 2006
today is THE day for the above event organised by NUS motorin' club!
woohoo
at first i had no clue what was this all about
but was persuaded by Sharon to participate
then ok lo, i joined (but without much enthusiasm & anticipation)
only looked forward to it
after findin' out more about it through the final briefin' a few days ago
amazin' race + fear factor combined!
TIME FOR SOME FUN!!!
7am:: reached school
the reportin' area was the school of computin' carpark
& the reportin' time was 730am
waited for my team members to arrive!
 look at the long queue outside the carpark! we were really obstructin' the traffic, oops.
& Sharon arrived..
..in her dad's mercendes benz! FWAH. there were only TWO mercs in this rally, includin' Sharon's, haha!

registered ourselves, received the goodie bag, received our first set of questionnaires + challenge station information
9am:: FLAG-OFF!

DESTINATION 1:: laguna national golf & country club @ xilin ave (wrong place!)
we didn't actually have a good start

we were misled by the questionnaire
(the questionnaire guided us to the NEWater treatment plant, & this club was juz beside it)
& thought this was the right place to do our challenge
but apparently it wasn't this professional golfin' club!
DESTINATION 2:: liliput @ east coast park (challenge station 1)
had a hard time lookin' for this shop!
i really didn't know
there exists such a place to play MINI GOLF!
 the mini "ranges"
Andy givin' it a try! *whoosh*
it's an air-conditioned place
with many ranges with different objects on them
we were supposed to try, within 3 strokes, gettin' the golf ball into the hole
it was DAMN hard
guess we're all not cut out to play golf for life

DESTINATION 3:: g-max @ clarke quay (challenge station 2)
this was SHIOK!!!
never had the chance to ride g-max (the reverse bungee) cos it's so freakin' expensive
($25 per head for students, $35 per head for non-students)
Yih Hong & i went onto it
& we both only had to pay $5 each!
HOW CHEAP!
(but anyway, this is a challenge station, you expect us to pay to do a challenge?)

DESTINATION 5:: snow city @ jurong east (challenge station 3)
juz when we were all complainin' of the heat
we were sent to this place next! haha
(my first time there!)
we were not allowed to bring any electronic devices in, so no photos for this station! boo
it was -2deg celcius inside!
& everyone (the public) was dressed in thick, warm sweaters, furry gloves & head wear inside
we? juz our t-shirt + jeans!
*BRRR*
the first task was to juz stay there for 5mins, not doin' anythin'
(juz to freeze us, gosh.)
that was quite ok
then we had to, as a team, slide down the snowy slope with our arms linked together
had to do this twice
wahaha! it was really fun!

DESTINATION 6:: farm mart @ lim chu kang
i've been here before!
but it's so ulu-pandan! =xX
this was not a challenge station again
juz had to search for some answers!
DESTINATION 7:: jurong frog farm @ lim chu kang (challenge station 4)

it's so freakin' deep into lim chu kang

& guess what was the challenge?
we had to carry a frog & do shuttle runs

it wasn't the frog that's killin' me
it's the RUNNIN'! gosh.

we were given the average points

DESTINATION 9:: NUS (back!)
our next station was actually labrador park, somewhere at pasir panjang
but it was pourin' so heavily that Sharon could hardly see the road
& we were also runnin' out of time
had to return by 5pm
if not, points will be deducted!
5pm:: back to NUS
settled down at the science canteen
waited for the dinner buffet
& the prize presentation
S.M.A.T didn't win anythin', sadly
haha, kidda expected, cos we really don't know the roads well enough!
but it's ok, at least we really had fun
& i've done a lot of things not done before

was havin' a splittin' headache after this car rally
went home & slept till midnight
before i even bathed

NUS' FEE HIKE
there was a categorical data analysis I mid-term test today!
quite ok
except for one question which i didn't know how to do
(but eventually i realised it was a very simple question, sighx!)
skipped multivariate statistical analysis tutorial
oops.
Yongmin didn't wanna go
& i also didn't wanna be late for work
so we both skipped it

worked the dinner shift at spageddies
we were short of 2 staff
(always short of staff these days!)
so ended up rather busy
though sales was so-so
i was the cashier!
but don't know why, my float at the end of the day never exceeds $500
sighx!
WHY?!?
went for supper with my colleagues - Fisher, Seeto, Kelvin, Angeline, Snoopie, Andrew, Kai Feng
at the food square beside meridien hotel
was readin' the NUS' fee hike response very intently these days on the IVLE forum
so many of the students were obviously displeased with the fact that there's gonna be another fee hike (increase in school fees)
(twice in two years)
the school/government juz implemented it without consultin' the students' union (NUSSU), not to say, the student body
they even suggested in wearin' a BLACK top today
to protest to this fee hike
i will be graduatin' after this semester
so this new fee hike will not affect me directly
but i do feel it's rather unfair to future prospective students
havin' to pay so much more to get a university education
NUSSU was badly attacked in the forum of cos
cos it seemed that they did not do enough to prevent this from happenin'
or make themselves VISIBLE to the students body
why do we have to pay MORE & MORE
when there are no improvements that we will benefit from?
we used to pay money for an exchange of goods or services
but now, we pay more money to get nothin' extra in return
how strange.

VALENTINE'S
was late for the applied time series analysis test!

i took more than an hour to get to school?
anyway, not gonna do well for the test definitely

felt exactly like the regression module - YUCKS.
dropped by munchie monkey after school
& was shocked that it was so freakin' busy!

valentine's = muz eat somethin' slightly more expensive?

worked for 2hrs there
then went down to spageddies @ paragon
i KNEW it would be WAR tonight
short of 2 staff
was at the five-seven station
lights were dimmed
sappy love songs were played
tealight candles lighted
ambience was good
(but compared to snoopy place, a long way to go!)
the queue outside became VERY long
it stretched till the entrance of the japanese restaurant beside us (L-shaped queue already)

each table was turned over about 3 to 4 times
my goodness
i thought it was a saturday night, with this kind of crowd
well of cos, most of the customers were young couples
some poor boys who still had to fork out blue notes to foot the entire bill
haha, valentine's ah..
economically beneficial - restaurants fully booked, sales of flowers amazingly high, movie theatres mobbed
i hope every couple would not forget to show each other this same kind of attention & love on the other 355 364 days

MUSIC, BACK!
worked the entire day at spageddies

whew
was the cashier the whole day
ever since i learnt bein' the cashier durin' last thursday's dinner shift
i've been the cashier for every shift i work

the reason bein'
ALL the cashiers had gone to spageddies @ marina square to work
(some runnin' both branches)
so we seldom see cashiers anymore
it was busy the entire day!
those workin' split-shifts had to clock out only at 4pm+ for their break
& by the time i finished my half-day closin'
i wasn't left with much time for my break too

O LEVEL?
was fightin' sleepiness the entire day in school
=.=
went to photocopy some stuff for the new media module
(i really didn't want to buy the textbook!)
then went munchie monkey for a late lunch
together with some of those who went australia with Yongmin
then went to work!
was the cashier
everythin' was balanced at the end of the day, heex
but i had to rush my staff supper
cos i still wasn't very familiar with the closin' steps
so i took a longer time
release of O level results today
(haha, does it concern me at all?)
i knew this, cos some of my colleagues were gettin' it
haha, i feel i've aged
O level?!?
that's like a 6 years ago matter?
my god.

CASHIER PLEASE!
what a long school day
YAWNX
was drenched in the rain
while tryin' to get to the next lesson
poor students, haha
haven't really started on my new media project yet
sianx
so borin'
i was actually not plannin' to work at spageddies today
cos class ended at 5pm
& i would not be able to make it on time for the roll-call
but they needed people
so i still rushed down & made it before 6pm
was trained to be the CASHIER today!
wahaha
Sebastier guided me & taught me the closin' too
woo, so much money to count
so many things to remember
but it was quite fun! =)
it's much easier than snoopy place
(why am i always comparin'?)
excludin' closin' though
cos we didn't have to do X or Z readings at snoopy place
i remembered we had the membership card where we had to give the appropriate tier discounts
then checked if there were any $10 vouchers
or one free birthday main course
then we had to key in the approval code manually
(not juz swipe the card)
had to write any promotions used on the receipts
staple the vouchers together
& so on
haha it really wasn't easy
but that made it challengin'!

UNIFORM - FINALLY!
overslept on the bus to school
ended up somewhere in pasir panjang as usual
gosh.
i like lecturers who teach & write on the whiteboard at the same time
& not juz talkin' with the powerpoint slides displayed
they catch my attention more
& it won't be that easy to doze off
as i'll have to copy at the same time too
went munchie monkey after school to blow balloons
as part of valentine's day's decorations
valentine's comin'!
i could already foresee myself havin' a date with..
..WORK!

I'VE BEEN GIVEN THE UNIFORM!!!
after 2 months 2 days
they've finally given me a set
& it's brand new somemore! woohoo
actually, gettin' the uniform is really no big deal
but because they made me WAIT so freakin' long for it
(everyone has been askin' why haven't i gotton it)
it has become a BIG deal to me
haha
but it's so damn oversized!
the shirt can even be a dress

busier than the past few nights
& an ang moh guest gave me $10 tips!!!

i've already lost the DRIVE to improve my standard at work
i used to tell myself
(at snoopy place)
that i wanna be pro in every station
(fountain, cashier, runner, host, server)
memorise everythin' in the menu
know where everythin' is kept
kaypo abit on what the managers/supervisors are doin' & see if i can help
be on standby on my offdays, in case i'm needed to work
it's kidda like goin' BEYOND my jobscope as juz a part-time service crew
but now
even with spageddies
the attitude is hardly there
i enjoy workin' there
i like this job
i'm still doin' what i'm EXPECTED to do
still committed in givin' as many days as possible in my schedules
the service to customers is also juz as good too (wahaha)
& i don't dread goin' to work at all
colleagues are nice & fun too
(of cos, still cannot beat snoopy place's peanuts gang)
but that's it - i'm juz doin' what i'm expected to do only
nothin' beyond this scope
& i'm also not enthusiastic about learnin' new stuff
or hopin' to be trained at a new station
i can really do a contrast between the attitude at snoopy place
& the attitude now
snoopy place:: "hey, teach me how to do chocoholic lucy lei! let me try! let me try!"
spageddies:: "bar new call!"
(askin' the bar-person to tend to the orders)
snoopy place:: helped Jerry look for people to work
spageddies:: none of my business!
snoopy place:: had to open the gates for business, do the openin' routine (challengin'!) to prepare the restaurant for operations
spageddies:: none of my business! (we don't get openin' shifts at all)
snoopy place:: had to check with the chefs what is the soup of the day, any 86 items from the kitchen, any 86 items from the fountain, then update the sign-in file
spageddies:: it would be told to us durin' roll-call
snoopy place:: had to bring out the washed side-plates, sort out the cutleries, tie-up the full garbage bags
spageddies:: the dish-washers do all these for us
snoopy place:: had to make sure your apron is neat & properly ironed
spageddies:: where's the iron?
snoopy place:: had to set-up areas for kids' birthday parties, prepare party packs, helium balloons, kids' party menu, etc.
spageddies:: huh? what parties?
snoopy place:: had to read the communication book everytime you report to work, to make sure you know what had been happenin' & updated on the promotions/changes
spageddies:: promotions would be repeated again & again durin' roll-call (zZz) & changes? for you to find out for yourself! (when the hell did they change the soft drinks glass to the short one? & the message by Andy about not to present bills when you are clearin' plates? or the one by Steven, to make a small tick on the bill on items that are served, then draw a straight line down when everythin' is out? they are not passed down to everyone at all! so many people asked why am i drawin' that dumb line.)

& i THOUGHT i've printed it
so i deleted it (shift + del, no way i could get it back)
without realisin' that
I HAVEN'T PRINTED
dumb ass.
managed to stay awake throughout school today
was it all thanks to Yongmin's vanilla latte in the mornin'?
or was it that i had a super-good quality 4hr sleep last night?
or my body has successfully adapted to my erratic sleepin' pattern?
if only those pimples stop poppin' though

TORTURIN' MYSELF?
worked split-shifts at spageddies
oh man, i'm makin' my own life real tough for myself
sighx
workin' like nobody's business
takin' so many statistics modules
makin' sure i do my assignments on time
makin' sure i still blog daily
makin' sure i have the munchie monkey rosters done-up on time
makin' sure i still meet-up with friends for supper + ktv
& in order to accomplish all of the above
i'm seriously sacrificin' on my SLEEP
i don't sleep more than 5hrs on average
work was kidda slack
dinner shift was slightly better
when's the crowd comin' back?
Yongmin came to dine with a group of friends

could recognise his girlfriend from all the photos i've seen
so friendly! haha
there's a new spageddies branch at marina square
(a franchise, under a different management)
cool. will drop by when i have the time
i had 3 suppers today - believe it or not
1) the pizzas from the staff supper after work
2) met-up with Seok Chuan & Kenny. went for supper despite the rain
3) lao yu sheng with my family. then also had an egg, chicken, fish & prawns

& had to sit through 3 continuous lectures

there was the chingay parade rehearsal tonight
orchard road was closed durin' this show
& there was hardly any crowd in the restaurant
borin'!
& i was in the same station as Fisher & Raymond
the twin towers! haha
the staff workin' tonight were all the zai ones

BACK TO SCHOOL - YUCKS.
it's back to school

the first lecture was so terrible
the lecturer went on & on for almost 2 whole hours
without givin' us a break!

went to the arts forum to meet Sharon
to register for the NUS charity car rally event on 18 feb
(oh yes, we finally registered)
i also signed up for the canoein' one-star course on 20 feb & 21 feb!

paid $28 for it
& $15 for the car rally

went to lao yu sheng with some of the munchie monkey people at the cafe!
i'd never eaten so much yu sheng in my entire life
cos i don't really like it

but we weren't really hungry

partyworld provided 4 mandarin oranges - UNPEELED. then Wei Wei transformed them into this, hoho. almost everyone who came in would say,"哇，摆到这么美啊？" haha!
& for the whole ktv session, they were playin' with this - tryin' to get all the beads into the dents
 Seok Chuan bought this for me! 孙燕姿's live concert in hong kong DVD! heeheex, THANK YOU! =)
ended the ktv session at midnight
then went for supper at the kopitiam @ youth park

BUFFET!

but not as scary as the past few wednesdays, whew
