another long day
booked 2 earliest drivin' slots late last night

cos i might not be able to get up
i did anyway

had 2 consecutive lessons for the first time!
both were under the same instructor - Mr.Quek
(now i've seen all my fixed group instructors!)
he doesn't talk as much as the others
but he's nice too
didn't give me any warm-ups in the circuit
juz drove me straight out to the road
& i went for SEVERAL ROUNDS
twistin' & turnin' around bt batok area
whew
i've completed stage1 & have started on stage2!!
=)
went munchie monkey to learn kitchen again
still very confused over what to add for different salads
more confident about makin' grilled chix sandwich + lasagne

then worked at green brew at night

what a day
packed so many things into one single day

& i wanted to book
BUT there wasn't enough money in the account
so gotta go down to bbdc
topped up my account
& when i wanna book
those slots had been taken!!!

the food looked SO good
or maybe cos i hadn't eaten

to learn the kitchen stuff!

cos was havin' stitches
then played pool with her

FIRST TIME OUT ON THE ROAD!!!

4th drivin' practical!
Mr.Low took me
today he seemed friendlier

(he read my blog? muahaha..siao)
it was the earliest session for the day - 8am

heex but i was really anticipatin'
cos i knew today would be out of circuit!
yeah!
so i did a few rounds of warm-up inside the circuit
then he drove me out
took me for 2 rounds around a certain route
around bt batok + bt gombak
(i used to stay around that area, so i'm quite familiar with it, heex)
i then took over the driver's seat
the road is so much WIDER than those in the circuit
& the stretch is long enough for me to keep changin' up
till the 4th gear
i was even drivin' at 70km/hr on one of the roads!
wahoo!
the feelin' was shiok?
muahaha
not as many mistakes as last evenin'
phew
only had problems with the brake pedal
tend to step too hard on it

read the newspapers + rotted

but there were satays + keropok orders
juz half an hr before i knocked off

besides the toy-like tables + chairs
the food + service were not bad

ever seen a strawberry SO BIG that it could block my whole face? muahaha..credits to Vivi for the photo!
worked at green brew in the afternoon
there was porridge buffet
then was a workshop for some singtel staff
with a tea break buffet
rushed down to bbdc after work
took the shuttle bus from the mrt station
the boardin' area is so strange
no sign or anythin' sayin' that's the area to wait for the bus
anyway i juz followed those people with i-am-still-learnin'-to-drive faces

i was under the instructor who taught me on my first lesson again - Mr.Lu!
i prefer him to Mr.Low (my 2nd lesson instructor)
cos he's friendlier

did alot of turnings today again
my first time drivin' in the evenin'

cos he kept sayin' my turn was too wide

Some of them hopscotch from one straight life to another in a vain search for something indescribable, something they never seem to find. Lying in their wake are former spouses who feel rejected, bitter, and unloved. They produce vulnerable little children who wonder why daddy doesn't live here anymore and why mommy cries all the time.
Soaps and sitcoms on television tell us every day that infidelity is a marvelous game for two. It sure does look like fun. But when adultery has run its natural course, it only brings pain and disillusionment.

WAHAHA
waitin' for THIS DAY!!!
i've finally moved off a car!!!
muahaha
obviously i had my first drivin' practical
though it was at 8am (god!)
& i only had 4hrs of sleep last night
i still had fun today!
hoho
the instructor was very nice, patient
(duh! they have a sticker inside the car in front of the passenger seat:: "i will teach patiently" or somethin' like that,found it amusin',haha)
he drove me to a petrol kiosk inside bbdc itself
& briefed me about the maintainence of the car
opened the bonnet & checked the levels of the fuels
so many of them!

i don't think i can remember
then he also taught me how to change the tyre
o.O!!
he only showed till the jackin'-up of the car
the rest was juz verbal instructions
so i might still NOT know how to change

then was the pumpin' of tyres
32psi? 230kPa?
(if i didn't remember wrongly)
anyway all the above will not be tested
(but we don't learn juz for the test right? haha)
the next stages were the fun parts
(at least away from the noise & heat outside, keke)
got into the driver's seat
he showed me the various controls & devices
then we exchanged seats & he drove me to an area in the circuit
& i got back on the driver's seat again
i was then taught to step on the clutch pedal
& engaged the first gear

the clutch pedal seemed so far away even after i've adjusted my seat
short legs, haha
then had to maintain the engine revolutions at about 2000 rev/min
that was rather hard
cos the accelerator pedal is so freakin' sensitive!

after maintainin' that without lookin' at the meter
started releasin' my clutch pedal to the so-called "bitin' point"
(heard it don't know how many times durin' theory lessons)
and..
I'M OFF!!!
hahaha
at first i didn't even notice the car movin'
cos it was literally CRAWLIN'
hoho
then tried brakin'
the engine stalled for the first couple of times
cos i clutched in at the wrong time
or the car became so jerky
cos i braked too hard
muahaha
eventually could brake smoothly
whew
then did the same thing while reversin'
did this several times
so afraid i will hit the parked car in front
hahah
we then got off & went to a dummy steerin' wheel
he taught me the proper way of crossin' over while doin' a turn
drove me to a place near a bend
then i gotta complete that bend
woohoo
didn't know i gotta turn the steerin' wheel THAT MUCH to make that gradual turn
don't remember seein' my dad turnin' it so much?
haha
oh ya i even drove pass my dad!!!
haha
he didn't see me though
he was teachin' inside the circuit too

tryin' to make my turnin' perfect
& my brakin' smooth
well, still has room for improvement!

who came for trainin'
everythin' was smooth tonight
UNTIL the boss came

wow guess what
talked to my sis from 1am last night till 530am this mornin'
(don't worry, we are not havin' any problems)
so in the end she didn't sleep & go to work
oops
but it was nice
we seldom get the chance to see each other
much less to chat
shared so many things
especially since both of us are from the service line
i muz say she's a damn good manager
she really earns the respect of every staff
but i think the company isn't appreciative at all
anyway
she really impresses me with her leadership skills

cos it was too last min

went for my final theory lessons early in the mornin'
finally managed to find some time to make some progress
had the same instructor for both lessons
he was really HUMOUROUS!
though certain parts were really dry
(such as the clutch pedal & what have you)
he had lots of anecdotes to capture our attention
& his stories were all damn funny
couldn't remember all
but there was one, in which his student used his kneecap as the gear knob

who lead guests in, direct the way, watch out the steps, etc.
they get to watch free concerts
& i heard from Liang Cai that those ushers at esplanade are paid $15/hr

ok maybe their job is not as easy as it seems
(but how hard can it get?)
then you look back at workin' in cafes/restaurants
$5/hr average? $6.50 the max?
& we gotta run all over the place?

that's not the way to compare jobs
i guess it's all about interest

thought i will never step into that fMRI scanner ever again
after that sleep research
ha
i was involved in yet another study - culture research
(or somethin' like that)
went to the cogntivie neuroscience lab in the mornin'
so used to that area already
hoho
Jiat was the investigator for this study
i answered some questionnaires regardin' my profile + health condition
& also a little about my personality
then went into the room (where i performed the PVT task of the sleep research the other time) where Jiat asked me to do some tests
first he said 3 numbers, eg. 4 1 7 very slowly
& asked me to repeat
he then asked a series of simple questions like, "what's today's date? what day is it today? without lookin' at the watch, what is the time now? when is your birthday? what is the name of this place?" etc.
then he asked
"what were the 3 numbers i said at the beginnin'?"
muahaha
i couldn't really remember
juz agar-agar made a guess

the next test, again
he said 3 words - key, lemon, balloon
this time i made it a point to remember
since i know his "trick"
haha
again i was asked a series of boliaox questions
(eg. spellin' the word "world" backwards)
& had to say what were the 3 things he said juz now
wahaha
i was very sure this time
=)
next test was to copy a diagram exactly on the paper itself
then fold the paper into half & place it on the floor with my right hand
no idea what is it tryin' to test
then he showed me a picture of a nurse
& asked what is this occupation
then there was line below which says
"raise your hand"
he asked me to follow the instructions
so i juz raised my right hand
hmmx
don't know what is this for again
next few tests were on my memory

i had to repeat what numbers he said
he started off with only 2 numbers
which was damn easy
but when he increased to 7 to 8 numbers
i started forgettin' the first few numbers

next test was rather similar
EXCEPT, i gotta repeat the numbers BACKWARDS
oh god, tough
next test:: he took out a wooden board with 8 small, blue, identical blocks on it, separated in random positions
again, it was a test of memory
he will land his finger on the blocks
& i gotta follow what he did
(that means i muz remember which block he pointed & the order)
he started with 2 blocks, then kept increasin'
i started gettin' blur at around 8 blocks

next one was similar again
but gotta do it backwards
kidda worse
next few tests were on papers
had to answer some strange questions like, "why are there child labour laws? why muz we wash our clothes? why does the government require the registration of couples for marriage? name 4 presidents of singapore since independence. who was the prime minister when singapore was fightin' for independence? what is a thermometer? at what temperature does water boil? name 3 blood vessels in our body. which scientist do you relate to when 'theory of relativity' is mentioned? etc.

i juz skipped
next one was recognisin' patterns
tests how fast you can match the patterns
i think i was quite slow
cos i couldn't complete all the questions within the timin'
followin' test was transformin' the numbers to the symbols assigned to them
that was quite ok
juz gotta refer to the table of symbols quickly & copy them down
last 2 tests were the joinin' of dots
like some childhood activities
first one was damn easy
juz join the numbers up in ascendin' order, with a continuous line
next one, which was also the final test
was almost the same as the previous
except that there were alphabets this time too
so i muz join this manner: 1-A-2-B-3-C-4-D-...
haha
i'm really good at this

he even said my timin' was really fast
after doin' these "brain" tests
we went up to the so-familiar control station outside the scannin' room
haha
saw my previous investigator, Karen
she said
"hey, you are back here again! you can be our permanent subject la."
haha
yeah i was back again
this was my 4th time in the fMRI scanner
omg
this was simpler
as in, i didn't use up as much brain energy as the sleep research
for first round inside the scanner
i juz gotta indicate if i find the pictures pleasant or unpleasant
purely my opinion, no right or wrong
the pictures are such that there will a main animal/object with some weird backgrounds behind
for eg., a polar bear in a forest, a fish in the ocean, a cake on the table, etc.
when i was still tryin' to figure out what's the point of this
the next few rounds told me the answer
MEMORY again!
i had to indicate if i've SEEN the animal/object before durin' that opinion round
it could be the same fish but in the sky, in this case, i muz indicate 'yes'
since it depends only on the animal/object, regardless of the changin' backgrounds
aiyo i couldn't really remember
i was guessin' half the time

it took almost 1.5hr for the scan to be done
whew
lastly, i was reimbursed with $40

(sleep deprivation day continued..)
430am - went up to the control station outside the scannin' room
to set up for the fMRI scan
tryin' soOoOoOoOo hard to stay awake inside the scanner

when i came out of the scannin' room
it was already bright daylight
woah
they bought beehoon + orange juice as breakfast for us
=)
felt like i've slept last night in the afternoon
so much more awake
haha
so i'm actually more of a day-time-person than night-time!
went for my final fMRI scan at 7pm
FINALLY!!
i did quite well for this scan
again, the bite-bar gave me some discomfort
as well as my achin' butt
haha
but anyway i was able to stay awake even though i was lyin' down
in fact i wasn't really sleepy also
strange
after completin' this entire research
i was reimbursed with the next $120
(which would make up to a total of $150 already!)
=)
they insisted i should take a cab home
but i see no need for that
so i juz took my bus home anyway
though i was carryin' my laptop
ha
& i had to be woken up by some nice people alightin' at cck terminal
oops
woo
haven't slept for more than 36hrs already

got up so early to go for basic theory lessons
though i've passed the test

but it's ok
i've forgotton almost everythin'

the first instructor was rather strict
but quite humourous
second one was much slower
& shared alot of his drivin' experiences with us
went to change my fixed group to one that needs only $5.25 surcharge
(not the gold group)
& there was admin fee of $21

i should waited for my dad to come
he talked to a guy in charge
& he said he could have waived the admin fee for me
but i've already done the transaction
damn
