my whole house was EXTREMELY quiet when i woke up
not juz cos no one was at home
not juz cos my fan was not switched on
while flippin' the newspapers
i realised what was wrong
ELECTRICAL FAILURE!!!
no wonder there was no sound from the vibrations of the motors of the fish tanks
no sound from the vibrations of the fridge
luckily my parents came home soon after
& fixed it
but we still don't know what went wrong
anyway

新加坡国立大学打破传统规范，在校园内售卖啤酒给学生。啤酒进入校园，在本地还是头一遭。
设在国大在上月8日开业的 Munchie Monkey 餐厅的一大卖点，就是售卖啤酒。对于国大这个创举，国大学生理事会表示，他们是做足了功课，才实践这个概念。
学生理事会促销主管谢秀全（25岁，土木工程系四年级学生）说："我们在外国当交换生时就考察了当地大学的情况，发觉那里的大学有很多酒吧酒廊。所以我们就想把这个概念引进新加坡，让本地的学生，尤其是国大生有个很好的地方聚会，让大学生活更多姿多彩。"
西方国家大学内
售卖啤酒很普遍
在西方国家如欧洲和澳洲，几乎所有的大学内都设有酒吧酒廊，给学生提供下课后舒解压力的聚会场所。来自芬兰和瑞典的交换生就指出，大学校园内售卖啤酒，在他们的家乡很普遍，而且已形成一种大学生活的文化。其中一名交换生坦言："刚到新加坡时，发现大学里没卖酒确实感到很惊讶，很不习惯。"
争取一年才获准
然而，要把这个开放的外国大学文化引进较为保守的我国，绝对不是易事。国大学生理事会会长余坚文（25岁，土木工程系四年级学生）说，他们是经过一年的积极争取，才得到校方批准。
国大学生事务处副主任黄璇英说，早在约十年前，当时的学生理事会就提出同样的建议，不过校方有鉴于时机不成熟，否决了提议。事隔多年，校方终于点头了。
她说："学校是经过了一番慎重考虑，认为学生会是负责任的团体，有能力确保学生们不会喝酒闹事，而国大的学生群也越来越国际化，所以批准让餐厅在校园内卖酒。"
她也指出，让学生在校园内接触到酒，并非坏事。"因为喝酒其实也是社交的一部分。让学生提早在学校培养负责任的喝酒行为，增强社交能力，有助于帮助他们适应离校后的现实生活。"
不过，为了确保学生不会在上课时间喝酒，校方规定餐厅只能在傍晚6时，下课之后才售卖啤酒，而且学生不能把啤酒带出餐厅饮用。至于酒的种类，目前只限于啤酒。
尽管限制多多，但是大学走向开放，允许校内餐厅卖酒，无形中让学生多了一个课余享受"欢乐时光"的好去处。对于这个得来不易的"特权"，学生格外珍惜。有关餐厅营业了近两个月，不曾出现学生醉酒闹事的状况。
因此，余坚文说，他们接下来会继续争取让更多酒类，如葡萄酒"入驻"国大。黄璇英也表示，只要学生喝酒态度正确，这是有可能的。不过，她强调："如果校方发现学生酒后闹事或有不恰当的行为，这个'校园卖酒的特权'将随时被收回。"

NUS cafe is first eatery on campus to serve beer - but only after classes have ended

WHINING and dining just got better at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Now, students can complain about teachers, exams and fellow students over a beer at Munchie Monkey Cafe.
It is the only one among the 15 eateries on campus to sell beer. Opened a month ago, the 2,000 sq ft outlet has a leg up on rivals by providing entertainment, too.
Live soccer matches and popular TV shows such as The Amazing Race are telecast on a big screen. Live bands have also made appearances.
The cafe, a joint venture between the university's student union and Spageddies Italian Kitchen, sits in the heart of campus in Yusof Ishak House. The latter houses more than 100 clubs and societies as well as a canteen and a Genki Sushi outlet.
'Selling beer is very common in foreign universities and since NUS has quite a significant number of foreigners, we decided to push for it,' says Mr Jeremy Ee, one of four directors of the cafe. He is also president of the student union. NUS has about 30,000 students and 20 per cent are foreigners.
Among the three local universities and five polytechnics, NUS is the only institution with an eatery that sells beer.
'When we mooted the idea of a cafe about a year ago, we wanted it to be a place where students can come to chill or study,' says Ee, 24, a civil engineering student. He mentioned the idea to a friend working in Spageddies, who suggested a partnership. Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) got wind of the business plan and decided to help out, too.
Ms Ng Suan Eng, deputy director of student services from the Office of Student Affairs, says NUS gave the go-ahead because 'we hope to increase the buzz on campus especially after office hours and to promote more interaction among students'.
The cafe, which serves mainly Italian food, sells beer only after 6pm when lessons would have ended. A jug (which pours four mugs) costs $19.80 compared to an average cafe price of $25.
The menu includes escargot, spaghetti, pizza, ice cream desserts and sodas. A plate of spaghetti carbonara costs $5.95 and a cup of latte, $2.50. Prices are nett, but outsiders pay 20 per cent more.
Since its opening on Oct 8, it has recorded an average of $2,500 in daily takings on weekdays and $2,800 on Saturdays. Staff from Spageddies manage the daily operations but most of the waiters are NUS students. NUS declines to say how much rent it is charging.
The $90,000 spent on renovation and $12,000 on furniture came mainly from Spageddies and the student union, with APB also chipping in.
Students welcome this new addition to the campus.
'Finally, there's a place to really relax. In the past, there was only food but no entertainment, live football matches or beer,' says postgraduate student Soong Poh Loong, 29, who can be seen at the cafe about two to three times a week.
Munchie Monkey Cafe opens from 11am to 11pm, Mondays to Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Tel: 6774-4940.

oh man
worked 12hrs straight @ green brew
from 8am to 8pm
there was a function early in the mornin'
that was why we opened earlier than usual
freakin' COLD mornin'
Sam bought breakfast for me!
so nice of him =)
quite slack
a department in singtel went on a food trail
so they had a buffet in the mornin' before settin' off
they returned in the afternoon
for another buffet
which was ridiculous
cos they had already filled their stomachs along the trail
as expected
the afternoon buffet was as good as untouched
i was all alone workin' from 1130am to 230pm!
nothin' much happened
i only cleaned & wiped alot of stuff
& prepared for the afternoon's buffet table
ate SO much today
cos someone gave me & Mimah each a mac's happy meal
alot of leftover from the buffets
& Mimah made egg sandwich + fried fries
omg
though i knocked off at 8pm
i stood at the reception
chattin' away with Vivian until 930pm
wahaha
the bus ride home was shiok!
very empty bus
& the air-con wasn't blastin'
saw 2 letters for me when i reached home
almost FREAKED ME OUT
i really thought they were letters regardin' finin'
cos both were without any company headers
labelled 'private & confidential'
looked like those government letters
but LUCKILY
they were juz letters from AIA

then i did the blood test

i almost failed the haemoglobin level test
my iron level was zhun zhun at the borderline lo
PHEW!!
i would really tear my hair off if i couldn't donate
after travellin' miles

never had problems with my iron level before
think i better start takin' those tablets they give
anyway
finally it was the donation
the first nurse (cos 3 nurses attended to me in total) injected the anaesthetic into my arm
then she proceeded to poke me with the main needle
everythin' was smooth till this stage
my blood was flowin' through the tube
THEN it stopped
for god knows what reason
then the nurse was tryin' to find my vein again
a 2nd nurse came along to help her find my vein
but they both couldn't
then the 3rd nurse, who was the head of the nurses i guess
pulled the needle out a little, twisted it a little
& ta-dah!
my blood started flowin' again
whew~
i don't like the feelin' of the needle movin' around INSIDE my arm
yeah then she told me
that there would be rather bad blue-black bruises & swellin' at this area
oh well~
i was given an ice-pack to press on the bruised area too
& a bottle of hirudoid cream, to be applied
anyway i collected a planner + polo t-shirt

went to sch for the last review lecture of computer aided data analysis..also handed up my project le..yeahHh..DONE!! now only have to mug for exams!!
stayed in the S16 with Pei Feng..watched some 5566 variety shows while she did her projects..

zZzZz..very sleepy..
had linear algebra II review lecture..woohoo..end of the module!! the lecturer is really damn good..in the online feedback for this semester..i nominated him for the teachin' award..also gave very good comments on him..keke..tellin' the truth k..
finished my computer aided data analysis project in the S16 lab..yeahHhH! juz gotta check thru' + print & no more projects le!! heex..
then went monkey to work..took over Lay Mun's shift..(dunno who is she yet)..Sharon & Yih Hong came to dine..keke..volunteered to help out the late night shift..since we would be opened till 1am for people to watch the epl matches..
but at 6pm..i went off first..to meet Mei Qing & Siew Wai @ ps..we went to the 'new snoopy place'..ya right..no la..went to tuscan western italian..one of the restaurant that took over..the other outlet is summerspoon..cheaper food lo..
the tuscan western italian restaurant is so posh-lookin' siah..very well-furnished..looks so classy..but it's not fine-dinin' la..
we had 2 pastas + a pizza..very small portion lo..& the pastas are really juz the pasta + sauce..nothin' else le..but not bad la..or was it cos im hungry..haha..anyway..Mei Qing took alot of photos siahh..here are some photos!!

hmMmx..gonna work @ both monkey & green brew today..
8am-10am - lecture

6pm-10pm - green brew
haha..replaced a colleague's shift mahx..troublesome siah..gotta bring 2 shirts..
im soOoOoOo sleepy..only slept around 1.5hrs lo..zZzZ..
jolin tsai's new single - zhao pai dong zuo is out..think she's comin' up with an album of dance hits..
overslept on the bus to sch again!! piangx..woke up at the same bus-stop as the other time lo..cannot make it siahh..
wah kaoxX..today's lunchtime @ monkey was SUPER SUPER BUSY lo!!! OMG..all the tables were split/joined until no order at all..cutleries kept runnin' out..the drinks took a long time to be served..the kitchen kept ringin' the bell..lots of tables uncleared..absolutely no space to move in between the tables..the longggg queue was never-endin'..
we were runnin' a FULL HOUSE for almost an hr lo..piangx..super siong..my fingers are now experiencin' a stingin' pain..cos of the hot lasagne plates la..god..
it was until 230pm when everythin' slowed down alot..alot of misen-plus to do..checked with Guna on the sales..he said this afternoon was most probably the highest sales ever..no wonder la..but there were 2 comments forms returned..& both commented that the service was excellent!!! wahaha..didn't expect it..cos we were all damn panicky..whew~
somehow..i feel that alot of things are very inefficient + ineffective there lo..(or maybe im juz NOT USED to it)..
1) the way food is bein' picked up::
if the cooks never put the chit beside the dish..we gotta ask them what's the table no..& they don't have the habit of cancellin' off any dish that has been served..& so it gets confusin' at times..& for almost every dish..we gotta put the ground pepper..so ma fan..
then for soups..we gotta take & serve ourselves once there is an order..it's kidda ridiculous cos the soup plate is quite shallow..why can't it be a bowl?? for clear soups like minestrone..it's so difficult to maintain the balance siahh..
2) table settings::
very limited supplies of cutleries ah..especially the forks..they run out like every 10mins? then when we go in to collect from the auntie..they're either not washed yet..or they are washed already..but thrown one side..all unsorted & wet..& time is wasted again..to sort them..DRY them..& half the time..they are not 100% clean..
then when settin' the tables..the cutleries are all contained in a basket..& so it's impossible to see from far..how many sets do i need to bring over there..or is that table short of any set..can't tell at all..number of serviettes too..gotta go right to the table then can tell..at least in snoopy place..the settings are on the tables..on the right of every seat..then from far..it's easy to detect any missin' set lo..then the tables are all very light..so i can't wipe with too much force..cos the whole table will shake violently.. -__________-" & the salt + pepper are in small sachets..every table muz have 5 sachets of salt & 5 sachets of pepper each..who in the world will go & count (when it's damn busy) when settin' a table everytime??? so most of the time..we HECK..the menus also super limited..always gotta "steal" from other tables when guests asked for it..haixXx..
3) clearin'::
when im carryin' quite a few plates on BOTH hands..i still gotta find ANOTHER HAND to open that stupid one-way door..either i call for help..or i rush in before the door closes..or..a better way would be to go thru' the back-door..which i could use my elbow to open that door..or a even better way: don't carry so many plates la!! =xX for the cups/glasses..as usual..gotta slot them into a rack..nothin' wrong with that..except that the rack is ON THE FLOOR.. -_________-" unlike in snoopy place when it was at waist level..you don't have to bend down to slot..for monkey..i gotta squat down lo..pengx..but anyway..that's juz a matter of gettin' used to it...not much of a problem la..
haha..i bet there are alot more that i wanna whine about.. =xX juz can't think of them now..anyway the above is quite alot already bah..oops..juz wanna whine la.. =xX
oh ya anyway..quite a few friends came to dine..Kwan Mei, Jiamin, Meliana (sec sch friends)..& yongmin too..the guy who was the vocal percussionist for resonance was here too..as well as Sunshine (was from njcsb)..a tutorial mate from linear algebra II..thanks for comin'!! =)
now im feelin' so freakin' tired..sleepy..hot..oily..sticky..stinky..dirty..& YET i gotta go down to green brew soon for another 4hr-shift..goodness..well i asked for it right..no one asked me to take up 2 jobs.. =/
there was a tombola game goin' on at green brew at night..somethin' like bingo/jackpot lei..haha..anyway..damn boliaox..cooked crackers for the first time!! keke..so amazin' siahh..the way it grows from a tiny piece to one huge cracker..hahaha..

anyway..today is no sch + no work day!! yahoOoO..
can't watch sg idol @ the studio LIVE le..cos Pei Feng couldn't get the tickets..sobx..haha..but we'll still get to join the idols for a party @ newsroom bar tonight..eHh..
why must it always rain in the afternoon?!?
WOOHOO!! went orchard to meet Pei Feng..we had a quick dinner @ mac then took cab to newsroom bar @ mohd sultan..her friend only had ONE invite pass lo..but those people at the entrance still let the two of us in..phew! keke..there were ALOT of people inside siahh..daniel ong + jean danker were the hosts..we watched the sg idol on a big screen..the hosts would entertain us durin' adverts lo..haha..tonight the idols sang 2 songs each!! wow..damn impressed with taufik..i love olinda's song - superwoman!!! ahhh..super nice song..but she skipped the chorus la..haha..
anyway..after the show..the hosts asked some qns..those who answered correctly would win some prizes..Pei Feng won some shampoo stuff..wahaha..
then there was a lucky draw..they picked 30 people to get the 5 idols' signatures..my no.88 was the FIRST one to get picked!! wahaha..but i almost lost the paper siahh..heex..so lucky..
the idols then came!!! wow..sylvester!!! hahaha..alot of fans were shoutin' his name lo..they talked a little..then i went to get autographs from them on the poster in the goodies bag..keke..i shook sylvester's hand!!!! heex..then olinda is very nice lo..hmmx..

there're so many swappin' of shifts for monkey (due to the comin' exams) lo!! makin' me so confused siahh..i have yet to find someone to replace me on a tuesday shift which clashes with my paper too..sighx..
oh ya..Pei Feng has the tickets to the idol party this week!! woohoo!! which means on this thur..we'll watch the sg idol LIVE @ the studio..then joined the idols for a party after that! heh heh.. =P
