yesterday was a full day at munchie monkey
today was green brew
Sam & i had to manage the lunch porridge buffet
as well as a private function for the president of singtel recreation club
had a 3.5 break before startin' my dinner shift
Lily came down to meet me
& i signed up 2 more AIA insurance policies with her
wow, i'm really heavily insured
(i have 4 insurance policies with AIA! OMG)
so if you wanna kill me, go ahead
tombola night was slacker than the past few weeks
maybe cos Sam was around to help us

cos of the stupid rag day event on 6 august
the second munchie monkey trainin' session has to be postponed to 13 august

worked 8.5hours straight at munchie monkey
from 12pm all the way to closin'
so so so busy durin' lunchtime
as bad as monday i would say
WHEW!
as usual there was a lack of co-ordination with the kitchen
we tried a new system
to give the service side a copy of the order chit too
so we could see for ourselves which table to go to
& what were the dishes that had not been served
(previously we had to ask the chef which table to serve to)
i preferred this new system
(it's what snoopy place did too)
BUT
we only got SOME of the chits
& they were not arranged accordin' to the no.
so it led to confusion AS USUAL
sighx
when it's busy
of cos the orders will take some time
but we don't have to be so disorganised right?
anyway the matriculation fair ended today
will the crowd die tomorrow?
that's hard to say

went for my drivin' revision lesson this mornin'
was under Mr.Lu again
haven't driven for two weeks!
but it was ok
especially for the circuit courses
no major problems at all
went out to the roads three times!

a bus almost collided into me

half a month to go before my TP test
hopefully i will be perfectly ok by then!

i was standin'-by, juz in case the crowd picked up

today was the opposite
but we had enough crew + kitchen staff
so it wasn't as bad as monday

munchie monkey was SO prepared for another battle
but in the end?
it was a slow & easy crowd
i tended the booth at the matriculation fair till noon
then rushed back to the cafe, expectin' a war goin' on
surprisingly there wasn't
the 4 of us were so quick in our actions still
so we turned over damn fast once a table left
comfortable pace to work
it's really hard to predict the crowd!
but some of us thought that it depended on which faculties matriculated for the day
the arts faculty was matriculated yesterday
& our assumption was that arts students were more 'sociable'
so they would hang out together at the cafe for lunch
as for today
science, dentistry & medicine students were matriculated
haha you can guess what was the assumption
(look, we were so free that we could talk nonsense, haha)
took a bus to ngee ann polytechnic to meet Vivi
& we went down to town
had a GREAT dinner at the new fish & co @ wheelock place
seafood platter for two, WOW!
i muz say
this restaurant has one of the best outlooks
the ambience is fantastic
the service ROCKS ROCKS ROCKS!!!
(every staff was so friendly, warm & helpful!)
the food was yummy-licious too
had so much fun peelin' the prawns, haha
it's a place i will definitely go back again

(am havin' a drivin' lesson on wed mornin' even)
thur: full day at munchie monkey
fri - sun: full day at green brew
i'm down with workaholism
& i think i'm goin' to die of it soon too
lunchtime at munchie monkey today was a TERROR
it was the first day of the matriculation fair
i tended our munchie monkey booth at the fair
it was one of the last booths of the fair!
so by the time the freshmen got to my booth
their hands were carryin' bags & bags of stuff that it took some effort to take the flyer from me
saw quite a few familiar faces
the guys matriculatin' this year are those from my 1984 batch
Joo Chuan stood in for me while i went back to the cafe to help out
i ended up helpin' throughout the entire lunchtime
& pushed my booth duty aside
why?
cos the crowd was terrifyin'!
people juz poured into the cafe endlessly
reminded me of the open house event the other time
but that was worse i think
anyway i worked till i was perspirin' like crazy
felt apologetic to our customers
think we didn't put up our best service
food was especially S-L-O-W
the order chits in the kitchen were freakin' long
people kept askin' when would their food arrive

gotta brace myself for the next 3 days' battles
cos matrculation is goin' on till thursday
(that's why i'll be around durin' lunchtime everyday durin' this period)
added more crew for tomorrow's battle!
rushed down to the national library to do a bookdrop
then picked up another robin cook novel - seizure
it was published in 2003!
so recently written
but the last copy left on the shelf was a big, hardcover book
had no choice but to take it still
though it's so bulky to carry around

sold quite a few jugs of beer to those uncles in the jackpot room
cos one of them won big money

which was near midnight

skipped joggin' today
cos i woke up late
& i was workin' the openin' shift!
surprisin' eh
cos i've always been doin' the closin' shift instead
did the usual wipin', cleanin' & moppin' the entire afternoon
so glad that the recreation club was playin' some kenny g's tunes
Vivi knocked off the same time as me!
so we went parkway parade
quite a bumpy ride
after shoppin' around for a while
then took a lengthy, hot & stuffy bus ride to tampines mall

my second time there & it was with Vivi again
my spicy cha-shu ramen was excellent!

took a freakin' long train journey back home
buried myself in the robin cook book

had quite a hard time lookin' for it

especially the central lendin' library at basement 1
(the only level where borrowin' is allowed)
gotta squeeze with people at the shelves
really amazed by the collection there

& the borrowin' queue was damn long, as expected
really wonder why do some people borrow 8 books?
do they really read all of them?

it's another cold, rainy mornin'

not only cos there were few customers
it was also cos i was workin' with 2 supermen - Joy & Michael

but Angela & i were told to leave first
cos we would not able to claim any cab fare
though they say first impression counts durin' an interview
i do not truly believe in that
just look at myself
a few years ago when i was huntin' for a job
& walked past snoopy place
it came across as juz another place to ask for a vacancy & juz try try la
i mean i had previously no experience in the F&B line
& hello, waitressin'???
my impression of waitressin' was those ladies wearin' cheong sam & high heels in a chinese restaurant
serving big big plates of food
haha
but i checked out the uniform of those young ladies workin' at snoopy place
(phew, polo t-shirt, jeans, apron)
& i love the look of this casual-dinin' restaurant - so cosy, friendly ambience
best of all - it played pop songs (that's a very strong pull factor!)
so i really did ask for a vacancy & walked-in immediately for an interview
what held me back was - it was only a PART-TIME job
i was lookin' for a full-time
since i would be absolutely FREE for the whole of 7 months (i juz completed my 'A' levels)
a few days later
a supervisor (Jerry) called me
& asked me to report to work on 10 dec'02 at 1130am
i hesitated
i still didn't make up my mind whether to take it or not
eventually i reported punctually on that day, in the right uniform
& ever since, I HAVE NO REGRETS
it's a right move afterall
=)
& so i committed
almost 101% commitment
so you can see
i may not seem so interested at the interview
& also not very enthusiastic when i was confirmed
but in the end?
i fell in love with the job
ahhh
it's the time of the year again - cors biddin' tomorrow!!!

spent so much time + effort to get that darn puzzle done
faithfully bought the straits times for the past 15 days
rummaged the papers & collected all the letters
& today is THE DAY - lucky draw!

finally an off-day for me
haven't stopped workin' since 23 jun
whew
the reason for not workin'?
there was a munchie monkey meetin' in the evenin' at the cafe itself
lasted for 2.5hrs
i was the one takin' the minutes
went down to town to meet Vivi after the meetin'
we went kbox @ cineleisure to sing!
haven't gone ktv for eons!
wow, so many new songs
really gotta learn some of them!
Vivi was really entertainin'

we could actually stay till 6am
obviously we didn't
left at about 3am to hunt for FOOD
(we were rather hungry)
too bad the open-air hawker centre near meridien hotel was closed
so we could only grab some instant food from 7-eleven

did my 5km jog as usual at singtel rec club
Vivi & i prepared a home-cooked lunch for us + Angela (it's her birthday!)
Bryan's family insisted on us goin' in to sing with them
so Vivi & i did
haha
the last 2 hours of work were really MAD
i was rushin' closin' + wipin' & cleanin' lots of stuff
didn't want Sam to have anythin' to complain about
even changed the oil in the deep fryer (OH GROSSSSSSS..)
suffered 2 minor cuts
& my skin was so dry after so much soapin' & rubbin'

the F&B outlet which my sister works at - the soup spoon
has a NEW branch at raffles exchange!!
so much bigger than the old outlet at raffles city
(they've had their soft openin' on monday)
by the way, she's the manager there
how's that, a 19-year old manager?
awesome huh

received the letter from organ donor registry a few weeks back
finally had the time to go through the booklet
since i'm turnin' 21 soon
i'll be covered by the HOTA (human organ transplant act)
which means
when i die (due to ANY causes)
my kidneys, liver, heart & cornea will be removed under the act which has taken effect since 1 july 2004
i'm more than happy of cos
there's still another scheme - MTERA [the medical (therapy, education & research) act]
which is an opt-in scheme
i'll be optin'-in!
it's to donate my organs (ANY needed organs or parts, eg., kidney, liver, heart, cornea, lung, bone, skin, etc.)
not only for transplants
but also for treatment, education & research
isn't it meaningful?

today is Wei Wei's last day at green brew

i bought 3 packets of beehoon for us

neither does he know exactly where i work
but these don't matter i guess
at least he's a responsible man
what's more
he doesn't smoke, drink, gamble (only buys 4D) & of cos doesn't visit those red light districts
he takes care of our family
fetches my mum home from work everyday without fail
& he's been a drivin' instructor for 8 years+!!!

stupid me
accidentally brought both bunches of keys from green brew home last night
so i gotta drop the keys there early in the mornin'

so i might as well go catch a movie before work!

the show was freakin' traumatisin'
really freaked out at certain parts
a little unrealistic though
martians?!
anyway the thrill was watchin' tom cruise protect his 2 kids - a little girl (who was always feelin' insecure, needed alot of attention & screamed so constantly that she almost irritated me. but she grew so brave towards the end that she moved me) + a teenage boy (rebellious, dyin' to join the army so he could fight back at the martians)
those martians sounded like dinosaurs (the gruntin' & hissin' sounds they made)
& it was really freaky to see human beings bein' turned into ashes when those martians fired death rays at them, leavin' only their clothes
oddly enough, those martians were destroyed eventually by BACTERIA!

a singtel staff who was goin' to the gym
told me she saw me on the papers

tried to look for a crew for munchie monkey for the dinner shift
& everyone had somethin' on!
(i can already foresee future problems croppin' up)
it's rather distressin' to receive every reply sayin',"sorry, i can't." or somethin' close to that
& what can i do?
continue waitin' for the other replies!
